What is zinc-air battery?

The zinc-air battery (zinc air battery), activated carbon adsorption in the air or pure oxygen as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode containing zinc, ammonium chloride or caustic solution is an electrolyte primary battery. Also known as zinc oxygen battery. It is divided into two systems neutral and alkaline zinc-air cell, respectively, represented by the letters A and P, then followed by a digital representation of the battery model.

1. The zinc-air battery charging process

The zinc-air battery charging process very slow, to solve this problem, typically the zinc-air battery anode zinc plate or zinc particles is oxidized after fail to zinc oxide, usually directly replace zinc plate or zinc particles and an electrolyte, the zinc-air battery is fully updated. Positive discharge, the negative electrode and the overall reaction chemical equation is:
2Zn + O2 + 2H2O = 2Zn (OH) 2

2. The zinc-air battery cells constituting

In the paste of zinc powder anode terminal, the cathode catalytic carbon. Holes in the battery case allows oxygen in the air into the chamber attached to the carbon cathode. Meanwhile, the zinc anode is oxidized, which is similar to the small silver oxide or a chemical reaction with mercury oxide batteries.
cathode – is catalytically carbon oxygen absorption from the air.
anode – is a mixture of zinc powder and electrolyte solution, into a paste.
electrolyte – aqueous potassium hydroxide solution of high concentration.
spacer layer – means for moving the solid particles of isolation between the two.
and an insulating sealing gasket – nylon material.
the outer surface of the battery – nickel metal shell with good corrosion resistance of the conductor

3 zinc-air battery cell type

There are four main types. ① neutral zinc-air cell: Structure and similar manganese cylindrical battery, but also a zinc-air battery of ammonium chloride and zinc chloride as an electrolyte, but in place of activated carbon bag to manganese dioxide, and the lid on or around vent hole remains open during use; ② button type zinc-air cell: structure and basic zinc silver button cellThe same, but leave small holes in the housing on the positive electrode, use may be opened; ③ low power large charge amount of the zinc-air battery wet: sintered or bonded activated carbon electrode and a plate-type electrode zinc electrode group is immersed into a composition filled with hydrogen sodium hydroxide solution in the container (see FIG.); ④ high power zinc-air battery: Usually the sheet-like adhesive is a activated carbon electrode mounted in an outer wall of the battery, the zinc electrode is installed in the middle cell, with absorbent therebetween membrane isolation, with catchy injection plug. Injection using a potassium hydroxide solution. Such portable battery. Zinc-air batteries wet low-power and high-power zinc-air batteries are temporary activated, activated carbon electrode can be used repeatedly, and the battery charge amount is exhausted after, as long as the replacement of a zinc electrode and lye, can be reused.

4 zinc-air battery cell principle

Anode:. Zn + 2OH- → ZnO + H2O + 2e-
Cathode: O2 + 2H2O + 4e- → 4OH-
Integrated : 2Zn + O2 → 2ZnO
this voltage is typically generated by the reaction is 1.4 volts, but the depth of discharge and the discharge current can cause voltage variations. Air must continuously into the cathode, foraminous cathode casing so that the oxygen in the pouring into the battery in order to make the chemical reaction.
